We built the thing we could not find.
MicroTax is a coordinated tax, accounting and finance practice for people who earn well, and a platform for the CPA firms that already serve them.

Our story
It started with a structure almost nobody gets offered
A family office is a private team of tax, investment, estate and finance specialists working on one family's financial life, all talking to each other. It is the most effective structure in personal finance, and it costs several hundred thousand dollars a year to run. So it was built for a few hundred families.
Reenu Cherian built a practice around a simpler version of the same idea. The value is not in any one strategy. It is in having the strategies coordinated by someone who can see the whole picture. If you earn $300,000, your financial life is not proportionally simpler than a billionaire's. You were just never offered the coordination.
"There's a gap between what you earn and what you keep. It is almost never caused by a missing strategy. It is caused by four people who never talk to each other."
The observation the firm was built on.
Then the second half
The advice was already sitting in someone's filing cabinet
Doing that work made something else obvious. The people best placed to give this advice already had the relationship. Every year a business owner hands his CPA a complete picture of his financial life and takes his advice on it. That is trust most professionals never earn.
The engagement is priced per return. A return is scoped to report the past accurately, and it is not paid to read the same document forward as a plan. So the work does not happen, and it is not because anyone is doing their job badly. The model was never built to pay for it.
That is two problems with one answer. Build the coordination once, then put it inside the firms that already have the relationships.
What we are building
One company, two jobs
For people who earn well
Tax advisory, bookkeeping and fractional CFO work run by one team against one view of you, so the tax plan, the books and the finance function are not three separate conversations.
It starts with a consultation, then a written assessment that reads your last few returns forward as a plan. You keep that analysis whether or not you go further.
For CPA firm owners
We acquire and partner with tax and accounting practices, and bring the delivery team, the technology and the capital a firm needs to grow past what one owner can carry.
There is room for an owner who wants to exit and room for one who wants to stay and build. The process is explained in public, which is more than most acquirers will do.
How we work
Four things we decided early
We tell you what does not apply
Every assessment names the strategies that are wrong for you and why. A list of everything we could sell you is not advice.
You see the economics before you sign
How we are paid on every service line is on the table at the start, not discovered later. Stated first, it is a credential. Left out, it is an objection.
Sequence beats selection
The right strategies in the wrong order produce bad outcomes. Nothing gets recommended out of sequence, no matter how good it looks on its own.
We do not blame the practitioner
The gap in this profession is a pricing model, not a competence problem. Every CPA we want to work with can read that sentence and nod.
The team
Five co-founders
Between us: a tax practice, a decade running tax offices at national scale, two IPOs, private equity diligence, and a channel built one firm owner at a time.

Reenu Cherian
Co-Founder
Leads the advisory work and is accountable for every client plan. Trained as a computer engineer at the Manipal Institute of Technology before moving into financial strategy, which is where the systematic approach comes from. Licensed financial professional, and the person who designs the retirement and protection side of a client plan.

Sunil Cherian
Co-Founder
Sets platform direction and leads capital. Founding team member at Array Networks, from startup through IPO. Later founding CEO of Mentor Global and co-founder of Copperwire, and sits on the board of an acquisition company listed on the TSX Venture market.

Ron James
Co-Founder
Runs integration for every practice that joins. He builds the plan for the book and your staff meets him first. Spent a decade at H&R Block, most of it as a regional director across seven western states, and later helped scale a firm that recovered more than $6B in tax credits for small businesses.

Salil Jain
Co-Founder
Handles the capital side and the structure of every deal. Advises Partners Group on private equity diligence and acquisitions, and buys and rebuilds service businesses as an operating partner. Previously chief customer officer at MetricStream after a career in enterprise go-to-market.

Harry Kemper
Co-Founder
Builds the firm network and is usually the first person an owner talks to. Fourteen years recovering telecom taxes and fees for large companies, on a career built around channel partnerships. Based in Illinois, which matters, because most practices worth talking to are not in Silicon Valley.
Where we are
Founded in Silicon Valley, deliberately not stuck there
The company started in Silicon Valley and the thinking still comes from there. The firms we want to work with do not. They are in Rockford and Denver and a few hundred places like them, run by people who have spent thirty years earning the trust of everyone on Main Street.
So the team is not all in one building, and that is on purpose rather than by accident.
